Owen Howard – Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach, Delta State University
Owen Howard is a dedicated and accomplished soccer professional who serves as an assistant coach for the Delta State University men’s soccer team. A former Statesman himself, Howard’s journey from player to coach exemplifies his passion for the game and commitment to fostering talent.
Born in Peterborough, England, Howard’s soccer career began at an early age. As a youth, he captained his teams from ages 11 to 18, showcasing leadership and technical prowess on the field. He honed his skills with Peterborough Academy for three years, earning a spot on the Peterborough Regional team at just 14. Playing for Yaxley FC, he helped secure six league titles, three league cup victories, and two national tournament appearances. Transitioning to men’s football with Buckden FC at age 18, Howard’s impact was immediate, leading the team to promotion in his first season.
Howard joined Delta State University as a defender, standing out for his consistent performances. During his sophomore year in 2018, he played in 17 games, starting 16, and recorded two assists while logging the most minutes for the team. His junior year saw him start 15 games, contributing a goal against Harding and an assist versus Oakwood.
After earning a degree in business management, Howard gained valuable professional experience as a marketing consultant for My Echelon in Sarasota, Florida. During his tenure in Florida, he excelled in sales strategy, customer relationship management, and cost-benefit analysis, further developing his leadership and interpersonal skills.
Howard’s return to Delta State as an assistant coach highlights his deep connection to the program. Drawing from his playing experience and business acumen, he focuses on player development, strategic planning, and fostering a winning culture. His unique blend of athletic and professional expertise makes him an invaluable asset to the Statesmen soccer program.
Off the field, Howard enjoys sharing his knowledge of the sport and inspiring young athletes to achieve their goals.
